Serotonin aka 5-hydroxytryptamine

A.K.A. 5-hydroxytryptamine. Many psychiatric ( Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Tofranil, Clozaril.) and psychedelic ( LSD, MDMA, Psilocybin and DMT) drugs act by effecting the level of serotonin or interacting with the serotonin receptor itself.

I'm mainly doing Java development Chemistry Development Kit to incorporate quantum mechanically based descriptors in a pharamacophore representation of the 5-HT2a receptor. I am developing a few different Neural Networks ( also Java) to better correlate structure and activity. In order to determine WTF molecular properties are responsible for the biological efficacy. I run electronic structure calculations using GAMESS and try to correlate these calculated properties with the results of distrubing animal experiments. Delightful.
